Google AdWords is a method of advertising your product or service based on accesses to your ads. Basically you purchase keyword phrases and based on searches for the phrases you specify, your ad will appear on the search page to the right of the searches returned by the search engine:

In order to use the AdWords Keyword Tool, you may have to create a campaign. It doesn’t have to be a real campaign, so don’t worry about getting hit with fees at this point. You can use the keyword tool to research various keyword combinations and see what their popularity is. For instance, if I enter the keyword string “Antique Bicycle” & “Antique Bicycle Part”,

I now have an incredible list of potential keywords to use later in my sales effort, and it also suggests some alternatives I probably hadn’t thought of.
But how popular are these search terms? Here’s where the new Keyword Tool is really cool! There are 3 ways you can display results:

When you choose Keyword Popularity as your search criteria, it displays results of Search Volume (what we care most about), and Advertiser competition for use of those keywords in the Google AdWords program.
